This Is Different
Most martial arts programs focus on competition, tournaments, and sport. Gracie Combatives® is different. Our entire focus is on real-world self-defence that works regardless of size or strength.
Every class breaks down one standing and one ground technique, cooperatively, so you build real skill without ego or pressure to compete.

Quick answers to common questions
Absolutely not. Our Gracie Combatives and Women Empowered programs are designed from the ground up for people with zero experience. You can walk in on day one and learn real techniques that actually work — we start from scratch, every class.
No — we do not offer drop-ins or open mats. All participants must either be enrolled members or actively taking part in our 10-Day Free Trial. This keeps the environment consistent, safe, and effective for everyone.
10 full days of unlimited classes, completely free, no credit card required, no pressure. Once you experience a class, you'll understand why so many Ottawa residents love it. Book online in about 60 seconds.
No — and that's intentional. We're a self-defence school, not a competition gym, following a structured curriculum. There's no competitive sparring in the beginner programs. You'll never be thrown to the wolves — on your first day or any day.
Yes. We have a women-only Women Empowered® program, plus many women train in our mixed Combatives classes. The atmosphere is genuinely warm, respectful, and ego-free — it's the biggest surprise for many of our students.
Not at all. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu was designed so a smaller, less athletic person can defend against a larger, stronger attacker. We welcome all fitness levels, ages, and body types. Many students find their fitness improves after joining.
The opposite. Our Gracie Bullyproof program teaches kids to avoid confrontation, use words first, and use physical defence only as a last resort. Students consistently become calmer, more confident, and kinder.
